HomeBrew Beer Fermentation Chiller

If you homebrew your beer, you know you need to keep fermentation temperatures for ales in a stable constant range somewhere between 60 & 70 degrees, but how do you do that?

If you live in the southern US, how can you brew a lager when the fermentation temperature needs to be around 50 degrees Farenheit for the first 2 weeks and 40 degrees F for the next 6 weeks?

I live in South Florida and have learned how to brew and ferment at proper ambient temperatures.

It ain't cheap to do it right! If you are looking for a cheap, and completely inconsistent and widely variable fermentation temperature difference in a fermentation cooler, then please search elsewhere.

I have searched YouTube for any video I could find about how to build a home brew beer fermentation chiller. Almost all of what I found was based on a budget of $50 to $100 budget or the design was completely missing the concept of a continuous fermentation temperature based on the type of yeast being used to ensure consistent and appropriate flavor of the brew.

Real micro breweries don't use ice cube trays and computer cooling fans to keep their valuable beer at the correct temperature during fermentation.

This video is not for the typical web surfer attempting to learn how to ferment their beer at the proper temperatures using some computer fans, ice cube trays and some styrofoam sheeting.

Even a very small micro brewery knows the science of producing a great beer that is almost exactly similar from one brew batch to the next.

One basic aspect of producing a great tasting homebrew beer is providing the correct temperature as well as "consistent" temparature for the yeast to do it's work.

If you are a serious home brewer, consider that most breweries use glycol jackets wrapped around their fermentation vessels to produce fantastic tasting beer recipes that are consistent, batch after batch.Every species of yeast, needs a certain temperature range to do it's job.

Watch this video to see how I have built a beer fermentation chiller out of everyday coolers and an aquarium chiller and pump.

Budget for this project to ferment 10 gallons of homebrew beer at one time is about $700 US plus many hours of time to get the design and plumbing correct.
